Abstract

Artifacts produced by and for social movements are necessarily dispersed and diverse. How better to collect movement artifacts as the events are unfolding has been a major challenge for archives, libraries, and museums. In this seminar, we will discuss the issues in archiving and making available to the public a large collection of artifacts created by thousands of activists during the Sunflower Movement in the Spring of 2014. We will also present a “zero budget” collaborative project in collecting COVID-19 images and stories in Taiwan, as well as the many efforts around the globe in safekeeping a communal memory of the pandemic for the future.
